Solid

by Simon Parker

Solid is the story of Edward Jose, the man who was to become Cornwall's only known bullfighter. His reign in the corridas of Madrid and Ronda, where he became something of a legend, lasted nearly twenty years. During that time he took several lovers, fathered many children and briefly became embroiled in the horrors of the First World War. Federico García Lorca dedicated a poem to him, his portrait was painted by Antonio Jiménez González, and he was presented to Pablo Picasso at a function in Malaga. Yet because he adopted a Spanish name, left Cornwall while still in his teens and was never to return, his story has not been told. Until now.
