Behind The Lines

It's 1917. The war is dragging on and the army needs more men at the Front. A decision is taken to recruit women to replace them in clerical work behind the lines in France. The Women's Auxiliary Army Corps is formed. Lettie Randall, a young woman drawn by the propaganda posters, is easily swayed to sign up. There follows two years in Abbeville, on The Somme, where Lettie becomes part of the largest mobilisation of women in history, and discovers purpose, friendship, love, danger – a sense of duty but also adventure...
